Widows Quest

When someone dies…

by anna on March 2nd, 2007

I will always remember rushing out to the ward and saying “He’s died, I think he has died, well I know he has….oh can someone come to the room!”

I am normally a calm person but I can remember the panic. When the doctor came in, I said I wanted to sit with him until he was taken away. They “I wouldn’t we are busy tonight it could take hours…we will just close the door and get to him when we can”

Those words cut me like a knife. They were maybe true, but they were cold and didn’t take into account my feelings. I am sure the nurse could have said “We will take care of him, youroses.jpg have been here by his bed for 48 hours…you need to go home and have some rest”

The reason why I write about it is I saw this report about end of life communication and how it can affect the grief process. How just taking 10 minutes can relieve stress for the families…worth a read.
