When I cannot sleep….
At the moment I am having nights when sleeping is really difficult. I have tried all sorts of different ways to “make” myself go to sleep, when in reality the more you make yourself the worse it gets! These are my top 3 tips on what seems to work for me.
- Read a book that is not too stretching on the mind. Just let yourself fall into the story and this takes away your
darker thoughts. - Have a routine. This trains my body to know when I think it is time for sleep. I do everything in order…..curl to the left for about 10 minutes and then turn over to the right…this final turn tells me it is sleep time.
- Play soft music before getting into bed, songs that don’t inspire memories but that relax you.
Does anyone have any tips for all us who do struggle to turn our mind away from “over thinking”

My wife died nearly 3 years ago now and I can count on the fingers of one hand of how many good nights sleep I have had. God I am desperate, I went to bed tired at 10.10 and woke up at 12.35, I cannot type anymore I feel so desperate and Sorry cant say anymore

Kenneth, my heart goes out to you and I want to help. I know what you mean about sleep..not sure this is right but often I just got up and watched a film, read a book or even cleaned the house. After about an hour my body would start to get tired….I think there is nothing worse than staying in bed and jsut tossing and turning. There is no answer to grief..it hurts but what you can do is try and take control of your life. What is something that you have always wanted to do..? Then make it happen..get loads of exercise, eat healthily no matter how you feel, get out, meet friends..no matter how much you don’t want to..most of all keep speaking to me and everyone else at Widows Quest we will support you through it

Hi, I work in a call center and it’s been 5 months being on a night shift. I work from 9PM to 5:30 AM and I’m always having a problem getting to sleep during day time. My place is quite and enough to tell you that there are no disturbances around but still I can’t slep. When I can sleep around 7AM, I get awake at 10AM even though there was no reason why I got awaken and I can no longer go back to sleep… Because I lack sleep, I cannot concentrate at work and I always get sick… As much as possible, I don’t want to take hard medicine because I might get addicted. I need remidies aside from medicines. Any suggestions?
Thank you… Angelsklink
