The Power of Photo’s in Grief
The digital age is with us, with people uploading photo’s and writing their thoughts on the web. But this weekend I visited Mum and she had found some old photo’s….they were old and worn - but oh so powerful. Photo’s are wonderful memories and I think we would lose something if we didn’t keep our hard copies. ![]()
My room has pictures placed around it and that ability to pass a photo, touch it, stroke it….really helps me cope with my emotions.
Maybe I am just getting old but digital photo albums just aren’t the same. I love the touch, I love the passing of photo’s in our hands…..I love remembering.
Mum showed me a wonderful photo of Dad when he was younger. She passed it to me and we both welled up….he looked so young, so innocent, so alive. I miss him so much, not because our relationship was perfect but because our relationship was real. In his imperfections, in my imperfections was an honesty and an unconditional love that I miss so much.
The photo is now near my TV and I look at it…to remember….it doesn’t stop me from hurting, but it does prevent me forgetting his smile.
