Love, Rage, Fear - 3 in built behaviours
Dr John Watson a founder of behavourism, said that a child has 3 behaviours as part of their emotional inventory. Love, fear and rage. I was reading about it in relation to learning, but it made me think about grief - as these 3 words flow through your body during the bereavement process….intermingling, clashing, hurting. It made me smile because when I looked at my needs when they died, I was childlike - I needed comfort, support, nurturing, permission to be angry, to be fearful, and yet talk about the love.![]()
I just wondered when shock happens whether the body’s defense is to go back to the child in you? It would make sense, and explain why I felt the way I did, and how others helped me by building back the adult in me. I wonder if you feel the same?
