Lessons from Ladybird Johnson Funeral

by anna on July 17th, 2007

Reading about the funeral of Ladybird Johnson made me think of when dad died. In a report on Chron.com it says

“Grandson Lyndon Nugent offered the family’s final farewell, emphasizing his grandmother’s abiding gentleness and her exhortation to ‘’stand by your convictions, support your friends, to love your neighbor and to do our part to leave the world a better place than we found it.”

Unusual summer rains have transformed the Hill Country into a lush green in stark contrast to the typical parched July landscape.

”The bountiful rain has given life to all the foliage and the trees and the plants and everything out here,” family spokesman Neal Spelce said. ”It’s almost like it’s paying tribute to her.”

When dad died it was bonfire night in England, a night when families join together and  as he took his last breath, there were fireworks all around the hospital. It was as though the world was saying “Goodbye” to a  sunset.jpg wonderful gentleman. He lived for his family and the night seemed such a fitting farewell to a loving father. Funny, how nature or life often says goodbye in such a fitting way. I also think my dad would be the first to agree with the phrase - ‘’stand by your convictions, support your friends, to love your neighbor and to do our part to leave the world a better place than we found it.”
